You’ve done all the training and you’re ready to race, hoping for the result you’ve been working towards. But there may be a fly in the ointment—an unforeseen problem that can spoil your day.
As all the evidence proves, that problem is usually the bike. Most race-destroying events come in the form of mechanicals, of which there’s quite a variety. Besides the garden variety flats, we have misfiring gears, faulty brakes, jammed chains, loose bolts, stretched cables, slipping seat posts, and bent skewers. And all too often, a worn tire leads to a flat tire or worse, a crash.
